What do we do at SSENSE?
social games
Part of our structure comes from our circle times. We open and close with songs and our middle circle includes social games as well. Favourites activities include playing and under our huge parachute or the green Cooper blanket, and cooperative games such as Hot Potato and London Bridge.
Our activities are sensory integration based and the soft room is extremely popular. Here the children can roll on balls without fear of being hurt.

platform swing
The platform swing encourages children to share and interact - we often hear lots of giggling! The volunteers learn first hand about autism spectrum disorders.
We use Transition charts to help the children learn routine and to make activity choices. We have adapted several versions of these charts and the parents help to decide which is bested suited to their child. Observation charts are also kept on each by our volunteers and communication books are used for parents and volunteers as often there simply isn't enough time to chat about the morning!
one-on-one support
Transition charts
Knowing their child has one-on-one support provides an opportunity for parents to relax in the Parents Corner. There they can share ideas, network and provide support for each other while parents just starting on their journey with autism learn from understanding friends are not alone. Information compiled by our Parent Liaison/Information Officer is made available here for the parents and volunteers.
